Chin and jawline filler is closer to structural work than to adding volume. The lower face is where filler can change the way a face reads in profile: a chin that sits back behind the lips, a jawline that has softened into the neck, a heaviness at the corners of the jaw that makes a face look older than it is.
It is also where a heavy hand shows most, because the lower face frames everything above it. We treat it in millimetres, and we plan the chin and the jawline together even when only one of them is being treated.

How Dr Haroon Ashraf approaches chin and jawline filler
Assessment
The lower face is assessed against the whole face, and mostly in profile. We look at where the chin sits relative to the lips and the nose, at the angle and line of the jaw, at the relationship between chin, mouth and neck, and at symmetry. We work out where heaviness is coming from: bone that has receded with age, soft tissue that has descended from above, or both.
A chin that projects a few millimetres more can change a profile out of all proportion to the volume placed. The same is true in the wrong direction, which is why the plan is precise and conservative, and why we will sometimes suggest treating the cheeks first when the lower face has descended because the mid-face has.
Product and Placement
A firm hyaluronic acid filler with a high degree of structure, placed deep on the bone, where it holds its shape and behaves like the structure it is replacing. Hyaluronic acid is reversible, and that is the reason we use nothing else.
In the chin that usually means a small number of precise deposits at the point and along the base. Along the jawline, filler is placed on the bone from the angle forward to restore a line rather than to add bulk. The jawline is a length of face rather than a spot, which is why it is treated as a whole and priced as a package.
Comfort
Topical anaesthetic is applied first, and the filler itself contains lidocaine. The chin and jaw are among the better-tolerated areas on the face; most people describe pressure rather than pain, and the tenderness afterwards is mild. The technique — where and how the filler is placed — is chosen for the area to give the best result while keeping trauma, and any discomfort, to a minimum.
Bruising is possible, as it is with any injection. If you take blood-thinning medication, tell us, and we will plan around it.
What the appointment looks like
Before You Arrive
You will be sent a medical questionnaire and consent form to complete beforehand, so the time in clinic is spent on you rather than on paperwork. Tell us about any recent dental work or dental infection, as we may ask you to wait.
Ideally, avoid alcohol for 24 hours before your appointment. If you take any blood-thinning medication, let Dr Ashraf know — continue taking it as prescribed; it simply means bruising is a little more likely and we plan around it.
On the Day
Plan for around an hour. Consultation and assessment come first, including profile photographs, then topical anaesthetic, then the treatment itself: around five to ten minutes for the chin alone, and fifteen to twenty for the jawline.
We photograph before and after at every appointment. Those photographs are yours, they form part of your clinical record, and they are only ever used elsewhere with your separate written permission.
Afterwards
Expect swelling and tenderness for a few days, and the area may feel firm to the touch for a week or two while the product integrates. The chin can feel a little tight for the first few days; that settles. The final result is what you see at around two weeks.
You will have written aftercare before you leave, and Dr Ashraf's direct contact details if anything concerns you. We review at two weeks, included rather than charged for.

Risks, and how we reduce them
Chin and jawline filler is a medical procedure and it carries medical risk. Any clinic that tells you otherwise is not one to be treated at.
Swelling, tenderness and bruising for a few days. Firmness along the jaw or at the chin while the product settles. Small lumps that resolve, or that can be massaged out at your review.
Asymmetry needing correction, a lump that persists, prolonged swelling. Filler placed superficially can show as a visible edge along the jaw. All are correctable, most of them by dissolving.
Vascular occlusion — filler entering or compressing a blood vessel — is the rare complication that matters with any filler. Done appropriately, with good technique and a proper understanding of the anatomy, chin and jawline filler is a safe and predictable treatment. Infection, and delayed-onset nodules, are also rare but possible, which is why we ask about recent dental work.

Chin and jawline filler FAQs
How long does chin and jawline filler last?
Typically twelve to eighteen months, and often towards the longer end of that, because the lower face is structural and the filler is placed deep on bone where it moves very little. We assess what is still there before adding anything at a later appointment.
Can filler fix a double chin?
It depends what is causing it. A chin that sits back makes the transition to the neck look heavier than it is, and projecting the chin and defining the jawline can clean that line up considerably. Filler does not remove fat, though, and if fat under the chin is the concern, filler is not the answer and we will say so at the assessment.
Will jawline filler make my face look masculine?
Only if that is what is planned. Definition and masculinisation are not the same thing. The angle of the jaw, its width, and how much projection is added at the chin are all choices, and they are made with reference to your face and what you want from it. Many women want a cleaner line without width; many men want both, and the plans are different.
Is chin and jawline filler for men or for women?
Both. It is one of the most popular filler treatments we offer for women and for men, and the difference is in the plan rather than the product. The same treatment can feminise a lower face — a softer, more tapered chin, a cleaner line without width — or masculinise it, with a squarer chin and a more angular jaw. Which of those you want is decided with you at the assessment, and the treatment is built around it rather than applied identically to everyone.
Do I need the chin and the jawline treated together?
Not necessarily. Sometimes a few millimetres of projection at the chin is all that is needed to bring the profile into balance; sometimes the jawline is the issue and the chin is fine. We assess both and treat what needs treating. Where the corners of the mouth are also turning down, marionette line filler is sometimes part of the same plan.
Does it hurt?
The chin and jaw are well tolerated. Topical anaesthetic goes on first, the filler contains lidocaine, and most people describe pressure rather than pain. Tenderness afterwards is mild and settles within a few days.
Can I have it before an event?
Give it two weeks if you can. Swelling settles over a few days, but the lower face can feel firm for a week or two, and the final line is what you see at around two weeks. If you also want room for a review, three weeks is more comfortable.
What if I don't like it?
Hyaluronic acid filler is reversible, so it can be dissolved. We would wait at least two weeks first, so the swelling has gone and the product has settled, and we would talk it through at your review before making that decision.
