Sunekos is an injectable skin treatment that combines hyaluronic acid with a patented blend of amino acids, the building blocks the skin uses to make collagen and elastin. Where Profhilo hydrates and remodels, Sunekos is designed to give the fibroblasts the raw material to rebuild the skin's own support, and it is given as a course of sessions, three to four weeks apart.
We use it in two ways: across the full face for skin that has lost elasticity and picked up fine lines, and around the eyes, where a lighter product is needed and where fine lines, crepiness and dark circles are so often a skin problem rather than a volume one.

How Dr Haroon Ashraf approaches Sunekos
Assessment
The first question is whether the problem is the skin or the structure beneath it, because the answers are different treatments. Then, if it is the skin, which skin booster fits. Broadly: Profhilo where the face has lost firmness and hydration across the whole area; Sunekos where elasticity and fine lines are the concern, and around the eyes; polynucleotides where the skin is sun-damaged or acne-scarred. Some people suit one; some plans use two in sequence.
Around the eyes we look carefully at whether there is a hollow underneath the crepey skin. If there is, Sunekos will improve the skin and do nothing for the hollow, and we will tell you that before you book a course.
Product and Technique
Sunekos combines non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid with six amino acids in a patented formula. It comes in two strengths: a lighter one for the delicate skin around the eyes and for fine lines, and a stronger one for skin that has lost more elasticity. It is placed into the skin as a series of small, superficial injections across the area, so the whole area is treated evenly, rather than at a few deep points.
The product is absorbed over the following weeks, and what remains is the change it has prompted in your own skin. It adds no volume, so there is nothing to look overdone.
Comfort
Numbing cream goes on first. Most people describe a sting rather than pain; the eyes take three to five minutes, the full face five to ten. Small bumps at the injection points are normal; they can last from a few hours to, sometimes, a day or two, and are significantly less visible after the first 24 hours.
Bruising is possible, and more likely around the eyes, where the skin is thin. If you take blood-thinning medication, tell us, and we will plan around it.
What the appointment looks like
Before You Arrive
You will be sent a medical questionnaire and consent form to complete beforehand, so the time in clinic is spent on you rather than on paperwork. Come without make-up on the area if you can.
Ideally, avoid alcohol for 24 hours before your appointment. If you take any blood-thinning medication, let Dr Ashraf know — continue taking it as prescribed; it simply means bruising is a little more likely and we plan around it.
On the Day
Plan for around 30 to 45 minutes for the first session, and less for the later ones in the course. Consultation and skin assessment come first, then numbing cream, then the injections themselves. You can go straight back to your day.
We photograph before and after at every appointment. Those photographs are yours, they form part of your clinical record, and they are only ever used elsewhere with your separate written permission.
Afterwards
Expect small bumps for a few hours to, sometimes, a day or two, significantly less visible after the first 24 hours; some redness; and possibly a bruise. No make-up on the area for the rest of the day, and no strenuous exercise, saunas or heat for 48 hours. Results build over the course: the first change is usually visible a few weeks in, and the full effect is around three months after the last session, because you are waiting for your own collagen and elastin rather than for a product.

Risks, and how we reduce them
Sunekos is a medical procedure and it carries medical risk. Less of it than filler, but not none, and any clinic that tells you otherwise is not one to be treated at.
Small bumps at the injection points, lasting from a few hours to, sometimes, a day or two, and significantly less visible after the first 24 hours. Redness and mild tenderness. Bruising, more likely around the eyes.
Swelling that lasts a few days. Bumps that take longer to settle. More pronounced bruising. A mild reaction at the injection sites. All settle on their own.
Infection, and hypersensitivity to the product, are rare but possible with any injectable. Both are recognised early and managed properly by a doctor who knows what he is looking at, which is the point of having one.

Sunekos FAQs
Sunekos or Profhilo?
Both are hyaluronic acid skin treatments, but they are built differently and used differently. Profhilo is a very high concentration of hyaluronic acid injected at a few points and left to spread; it suits skin that has lost firmness and hydration across the face, neck or hands, in two to three sessions. Sunekos adds amino acids and is injected across the area in a course of sessions three to four weeks apart; it suits elasticity, fine lines and the eye area. The assessment decides. Sunekos or polynucleotides for my eyes?
Both improve thin, crepey under-eye skin without adding volume. Polynucleotides work on the cells that make collagen and calm inflammation, and are where we lean when the skin is sun-damaged or scarred. How many sessions do I need?
A course of sessions three to four weeks apart is how we use it; most people have three, some have two, and some skin benefits from a fourth. After the course, a single maintenance session when the effect begins to fade keeps the result.
When will I see results?
Gradually, over the course. Hydration and a change in texture usually show a few weeks in. Elasticity and firmness come later, because they depend on your own collagen and elastin, and the full effect is around three months after the last session.
How long does Sunekos last?
Typically nine to twelve months, and significantly longer with maintenance. It is working against time rather than stopping it, so it lasts as long as you maintain it.
Does Sunekos hurt?
